What is Spoken Tutorials
Spoken Tutorial is an IIT-Bombay Project.It is a 2 hour program using Video Tutorials to teach a Software. Learn many Open Source Softwares for free.
SELF Workshops using Spoken Tutorials:
A.What is a spoken tutorial?

It is a video recording of a computer session.
-
Through audio and visual means, a spoken tutorial guides and instructs its users how to
deploy and benefit from open source software. -
It is typically ten minutes long.

It is created through a technology called screencast.

It has a Small file size, typically about 1MB per minute.

Spoken Tutorials are created for self-learning, and hence promote active learning.

In the future, bridging digital divide topics will also be covered through spoken tutorials.
B.What is a SELF Workshop?

In a SELF Workshop,
-
a typical student learns from spoken tutorials by reproducing every activity explained
and demonstrated in the recording/tutorial, -
a typical student learns only some spoken tutorials, the rest to be learnt outside the
classroom, -
no domain expert needs to be present.

SELF 'Workshops are typically of two hour duration.
C.Why should a student undergo a SELF Workshop?

They can learn one or more of the following: LibreOffice. Firefox, LaTEX, Scilab, PHP,
Python, C, C++, Java, Linux, OpenFOAM, OSCAD, GIMP and Blender. This list is
constantly getting expanded. -
It improves their IT/programming/simulation skills.

It improves their employment potential.

The Spoken Tutorial Project, IIT Bombay, gives a Certificate to those who pass an on-line
test.
